- Disk Space
- This is the amount of actual space available to you for storing your website on their server (also called file storage).
- Bandwidth
- This is a measure of how much website traffic is available to you. Every time someone visits your website, data has to be passed over the internet from the web server to the browser of the person looking at your site. This "volume of data transferred" is measured per unit of time (usually in BPS a monthly basis).
- Email Addresses
- This is the number of email addresses this web host allows you to have.
- Setup Fee
- A one-time fee charged when securing a hosting account
- Annual Service Fees
- Usually hosting companies charge by the year (some offer monthly rates, but at higher prices). If there is no charge for service (free web hosting) you will usually have a limited domain name (hostingcompany.com/yourname) and banner advertisements on your site in exchange for free service.
- Domain Registration
- A yearly fee for your website address. You may choose from a number of extensions like .com, .net or .org. You may register your domain for 1-10 years. Free-hosting companies require their own extension.
- Banner Ads
- These are advertisements located on the top or sides of each page of your website. Advertisers will pay the web host a fee to put these ads on the sites they host. This is how they can afford to offer free services.
