Web Design Arsenal
-
Adobe Photoshop
- The leader in image editing with advanced features for photo retouching, resizing, manipulation and creation. I use it for web optimization of images and graphic creation. Reducing the amount of colors in gif images or the quality of jpeg images is easy with the "save for web" feature which helps Web pages load faster.
-
Macromedia Dreamweaver
- A WYSIWYG editor and web development tool, enabling me to efficiently design, develop and maintain standards-based websites and applications. I use it for creating templates. It's similar to MS Front Page but with better standards compatibility and no requirement of server extensions.
-
Apple TextEdit
- This program edits RTF, Word, HTML, and plain text files. It loads fast because of it's minimal features (similar to Notepad). I use it for hand-coding HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Dreamweaver automates commands for me (which saves time) but doesn't always get the code right.
-
W3C
Validators
- The W3C develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential. W3C is a forum for information, commerce, communication, and collective understanding. I use their Validators to check Web page code for accessible standards.
-
Mozilla Firefox
- A free, fast, full-featured Web browser that makes browsing more efficient. Firefox includes pop-up blocking; a tab-browsing mode that lets you open several pages in a single window; and integrated Google searching. It's a streamlined browser window that shows you more of the page than any other browser. I use it since it has the least amount of "bugs" and a wonderful plethora of extensions.
