Guidance for What?
It's frustrating to get sales pitches or bad advice when investing in your business. Suggestions for what you actually need and what you might want will differ between each Web designer you talk to. If you just want to talk with a Web designer (no strings), please contact Stage 38.
About Web Designers
Professional Web design experience ranges from massive corporations with hundreds of experienced Web designers to your cousin who just bought the latest do it yourself software. Most Web designers fall in-between as freelancers. The price will also vary from one designer to the next, but freelancers will give you the best bang for your buck since they usually don't have any overhead.
Who Can You Trust?
Of course, this is an issue that is entirely up to you. Getting a website can be just as scary as going into the doctor's office. You pay your doctor to do what he does best, and the same with your Web designer. Be wary of anyone who guarantees search engine placement or does not know about the W3C web standards. Advice? Get a contract, talk to the designer's previous clients and make your expectations clear.
What Do You Really Need?
- A domain name
- A Web host (or server space)
- Web pages
- A way to publish your pages
